Love is a funny thing.  We learn about it as youngsters listening to or reading fairy tales like Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.  We get excited about it when Valentine’s Day rolls around every year.  We chase it in romantic movies and novels.  We build dreams around it, yet it often eludes us much like happiness.

Love is a feeling.  It is abstract and cannot be seen or touched, so it is unusual that we as humans spend so much time looking for it.  We have expressions of love like a kiss or a hug or a sparkly look in someone’s eyes.  We have symbols of love like hearts and red roses and chocolate.  But, love itself, is not tangible.  It is an e-motion (energy in motion).

As a feeling, love gets ignited within our hearts and emanates out into the world.  As energy in motion, it is experienced as a flutter in the heart, goose bumps all over the body, a weakness in the knees, or butterflies in the stomach.

So, if love is a feeling which is something intangible, how do you understand it better?  How do you really get into the depths of what LOVE is?

Well, for starters, there are 5 spiritual principles of love that I’d like to share with you.

1)  You can only love someone as much as you can love yourself.  No two ways about it.

How much do you love yourself?  A little or a lot?

How do you show that you love yourself?

2)  You can express your love only as much as you can express yourself, in general.

How comfortable are you talking about your fears and dreams?

How well do you communicate with others?

3)  Love cannot be bought or sold.  It can only be given or received.  Now, this sounds obvious, but if you think about it, people attempt to buy love all the time.  They do it through gifts when they’re feeling guilty or want to be forgiven; they do it through bribes.

Are you equally good at giving and receiving?

Do you give more than you receive?

Do you receive more than you give?

Are you unable to give or receive love at all?

4)  You can love another person only to the extent to which your heart is open.

How open is your heart?  How do you know?

5)  You can only attract what you are energetically vibrating.

Are you vibrating love or fear? How do you know?

Love is a feeling of expansion in the heart, and fear is a feeling of contraction.  Love and fear cannot exist in the heart at the same time because they are vibrational opposites.  When you’re vibrating at the frequency of love, you appear approachable and open and friendly.  In this state, your energy field is open and welcoming.  And when you’re vibrating at the frequency of fear, you appear unapproachable, closed, and unfriendly.  In this state, your energy field is closed and is repelling others.  You may not be consciously feeling fear in your heart; however, if you’re afraid of getting hurt or rejected, then you’re in a vibration of fear whether you know it or not.  This is just one example of how you can be emitting a vibe of fear without really knowing it.

So, why would someone be vibrating at the frequency of fear?

Stay tuned for the answer in an upcoming blog post.

Much love and brilliance to you,
